It would be great if somebody with a knowledge of Microformats or Schema.org could help make the site more semantic.

It would be nice to have the event done especially, but I think most of the parts of the site could probably benefit.

I'm thinking the site is long overdue of a spruce. That said, are microformats still a thing anymore? Do actual humans use this stuff?

Generally speaking though I'm for it. I guess if we can make it easy for Google to pick up event information, we should!

They are, see http://schema.org/Event (in particular).

Google is quite fond of them, https://developers.google.com/search/docs/guides/intro-structured-data
