Intellij infinite loading with new UI enabled #406

Open mirkormk opened 1 year ago

mirkormk commented 1 year ago

Describe the bug (Windows 10) Intellij can't start and goes into an infinite loading. This happened when I installed the plugin with the new Intellij UI enabled.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Enable the new intellij UI
  2. Download the plugin (or with marketplace or with local disk) and restart the software to complete the installation
  3. Upon opening, intellij shows a "black" (exactly the ui theme color choosed I think) with an infinite loading.

Expected behavior Open intellij with the new ui anabled and codetogether installed.

CodeTogether Host

Workaround (if any)

  1. Go to directory where intellij installs plugins.
  2. Delete CodeTogether
  3. Reopen intellij and disabled ui
  4. Reinstall CodeTogether e restart. With this workaround works

@mirkormk we were unable to reproduce this; we tried exactly the same steps you specified and CodeTogether loads up fine with the New UI. We tested on a couple of systems with IntelliJ Community 2023.1. Wondering if this was a glitch - are you able to reproduce this if you attempt to install CodeTogether again? If yes, can you attach a screenshot of how your workspace looks witht he New UI, but without CodeTogether installed? Thanks!

Hi @brianvfernandes, thanks for your fast answer. Yes, I took some screenshots to show my issue.

This is my plugins in the file explorer: image

This is my intellij first screen when I open it with NewUI and the plugin installed: image

This is my intellij screen with NewUI but without the plugin installed: image

This is my intellij screen (that load in few seconds) with the old UI and the plugin installed: image

I hope this screen can help you to understand the issue. Thanks so much again for the support though!

@mirkormk thanks for the screenshots. We think this could be an incompatibility caused by other plugins you may have installed, but were unable to replicate after installing the three in your screenshot. Do you have more than these installed? I also noticed that you have a number of plugins labeled "bundled" - what IntelliJ distribution is this? We were trying with the community edition, but it does not have these plugins - is this Android Studio? Thanks!

I had a similar issue. When starting intellij I just saw the intellij splash screen and a grey empty background. I had to kill the intellij process cause it was stuck. Every now and then it did seem to startup properly. But most of the time it failed. Disabling the codeTogether plugin fixed the issue. I barely use it so it was an ok solution for me. It did take quite some time before I finally figured out this plugin was the culprit of the issue..

@PKromhout thank you for the report and apologies for the inconvenience caused, I realize this would have been quite a frustrating experience. Can you please share what OS you're on and the exact distribution and version of IntelliJ you're using? We need help reproducing this so we can figure out what is going wrong.
