@MarianaVazquezCYF and @lilianabermudes this is still a fairly urgent need. There isn't a coherent group of volunteers doing this. (Basically I am doing this.)
Can you tell me what the state of play is on this ticket?
We started discussing this yesterday, and continued today. No volunteers apart from Barath and Caroline have engaged with the task, but Mariana has followed up with people who said they were going to do it.
@MarianaVazquezCYF @AmyCYF @gbencci and I are currently discussing it.
Task
Recruit industry professionals to approve module steps in Intro to Programming.
Skills / background
Industry professional Can be for new volunteers Remote async volunteering role, but can be organised into a "step review party" if desirable
Commitment
Minimum: 2 modules Maximum: 4 modules 1-2 hours per module, at peak times
Numbers (reasoning)
How many steps: 4 Each trainee completes 1 step per module. There are 4 modules. For ITP 1 with 115 learners, we need to budget for 115 reviews per module. Learners will drop off over the modules, and reviewers will get faster, so you should prioritise recruiting for the first module in ITP and the last module in ITP, where step completion controls access to other scheduled courses.
The two peak times for ITP #1 step review therefore will be:
How long does it take: ~14 hours per module
It takes perhaps 30 minutes to do your first step review and ~10 minutes to do the next one on the same step. So for 20 people the first 20 people will take ~30 minutes (10h) and then next 80 people will take ~10 minutes (13.3h), making 14 hours total.
(If you recruit 60 people, it will take 37 hours, is what I'm explaining here.)
Unlike ITD, the submitted coursework is already reviewed, so this doesn't need code review experience.
How many people do we need: ~20
Let's say for 100 learners we need 100/5 hours of step review and so a healthy number would be 15-20 people globally committing 1 hour each per module.
What does 'enough' look like
No step goes unreviewed for more than 1 week
