From psychologist to software developer. Tips and tricks from a self-taught developer.
(Working title. But something to this effect)
What your talk is about:
During the past 1.5 years of attending Code and Coffee, I've found myself sharing my journey as a mental health worker that transitioned to a successful, self-taught Software Developer. Seems to happen about 2-3 per meetup. I've noticed that my story really resonates with fellow self-taught developers, recent bootcamp graduates, and those simply looking to break into the field. Especially those working with similar tech stacks (frontend JavaScript, HTML, CSS, React, etc.).
I'm passionate about sharing my experiences because I've seen how it inspires, motivates, and piques curiosity among my audience. To my surprise, people find value in hearing my story. This led me to consider turning my journey into a structured talk. It doesn’t even really need to be technical, although getting newer members of the community used to ‘talking shop’ would be great as well. There are a lot of areas that we could potentially cover: learning to code, building a portfolio of projects with limited skills, job hunting, interviewing, proving yourself in your first role, keeping up with trends in your tech-stack, etc.
