Hi I think it would be really interesting to see if this was possible in either Processing or P5: http://developer.download.nvidia.com/books/HTML/gpugems/gpugems_ch38.html

I haven't looked through it thoroughly but it seems to give all the equations for different things. Maybe it uses shaders to give the effect, in that case it might be kind of complicated.
