This Forbes article, asks the question of whether businesses and workers can have remote work over the long term. If this is possible, there needs to be new ways of creating "energy, momentum, connection and creativity across their communities."

The article research found factors that impact community performance in traditional office-based organizations, apply to an even greater extent when communities work virtually. This means that companies that have remote workers, need to make more of a conscious effort to improve these factors. If intentional effort is not achieved, the results could lead to poor performances of workers within the company overtime.

Another important thing to gain from this article, were the five factors that make a psychologically safe environment:

  1. Social cohesion. This comes under more pressure within virtual teams.

  2. Trust and Information Sharing. Presence of trust creates an environment where people are willing and comfortable to share knowledge and information. This also involves emotional trust, which can influence how must sensitive knowledge and information members share with one another in the team. Along with emotional trust, their is a need to have cognitive trust with your colleagues as well. Since this can improve collaboration and sense of confidence with your team members.

  3. Perceived Supervisory Support. I also think this builds off achieving levels of support, if we are able to have a sense of support within the work environment. The theory of flow states that if people are Able to have a sense of support, they become less anxious. Which means, they are able to focus more on the task at hand, and that can create a sense of flow.

  4. External Communication. This involves reaching out to outside organizations for knowledge and receiving new ideas.

5.Vision and goal clarity

The research in this article is relevant towards virtual teams during covid, since the research gathered information from remote work during covid.
