This Microsoft article looks at new technologies that are helping to improve collaboration in virtual teams. As covid has transformed the workplace environment, companies such as Microsoft are rapidly trying to create technologies that can improve remote communication.

One of the biggest challenges I came across when I started to research about virtual teams, was the limited sense of being together. Microsoft is trying to change that and create more of a shared environment when communicating virtually, and that is through their new "together mode" feature. I found this really interesting and definitely think this will be an avenue of future work. I think their was a lot of psychology components that were used to create this form of communication. It looks at how to make members in a virtual setting feel more aware of a shared space. (I attached the 'together mode' picture down below) image

Another invention Microsoft has put in place, was the focus of checking on the well-being of co-workers or students. I think this aspect of technology will be important within the next couple of months, as schools begin remotely for many students. This "new Reflect messaging extension gives managers, leaders and teachers an easy way to check in with how their team or students are feeling – either in general, or about a specific topic like work-life balance, the status of a project, current events, or a change within the organization.“

As different companies, such as Microsoft, are leading the way to create a more inclusive and interactive virtual environment, the potential virtual work/collaboration will have in the future seems bright. It's also amazing to see how fast these companies invent new forms of technologies to help improve the lives of remote workers/students during the pandemic. I'm interested to see new updates on these forms of technologies in the near future.
