Summary

This article looks at the technical and psychological solutions for the success of a virtual team. I found their technical approach of using different boards, some which were constantly updated and others that stayed relatively the same, a smart idea to help create and maintain shared understanding and a shared purpose.

Key Points

Some key mindset changes:

  1. taking criticism and assume positive intent

  2. viewing the team and its members as having complementary skills with one another. It is not just a one-person team.

  3. being committed towards one another -- which involves being committed to the health, success, and growth of the team and each member in it

  4. the ability to work interdependently

  5. Having a shared purpose.

  1. A plan Board: Helps to remind team members of their shared purpose and vision. This board is not meant to be updated continuously since it envisions the overall goal of the team.

  2. An insight Board: This board involves a constant update on key players and their situations.

  3. Action Board: This board involves milestones, Statuses (Do, Doing, Done, requests for help / input / ideas), Communication, and a place where members can put parked ideas or future milestones.

Nice. Very similar to using IDEAS-ECP progress tracking cards (PTCs) with Kanban and Jira. See: https://github.com/bssw-psip/
