What is the vision of the Token Engineering Commons?

The Token Engineering Commons will support the discovery, development, and proliferation of best practices for engineering safe tokenized economies.

Providing these public goods will enable a Cambrian explosion of ethical, inclusive, safe, resilient and diverse economic systems for the benefit of societies around the globe.

What is the mission of the Token Engineering Commons? (How are we going to get there?)

Our goal is to become a Schelling Point for the token engineering community.

Our foundational economic layer will fund projects that advance token engineering, while also aligning our collective success with the individual benefit of our token holders.

The social layer that emerges is even more important as it will serve to unite the token engineering field around ethical principles, standards, tools, and the many other matters that emerge as this nascent field of research advances.

What are the core values of the Token Engineering Commons?

Our Commons operates from a prosocial, human-centered perspective.

Integrity, curiosity, constructive inquiry, presence and gratitude are foundational for maintaining mutual respect for our growing community.

We encourage our members to be radically open source, non-hierarchical, transparent in their intentions and accountable for their actions.

We prioritize the long-term advancement of token engineering over short-term member profits, because through proper economic design, if we succeed collectively, we will also benefit individually at longer time scales.

I really like the Mission, especially the mention of Schelling point... but I wish the Vision was shorter

I'm only learning about the meaning of Schelling point now. I love it. Not so much "cooperating without communicating" but the sense of an intuitive meeting. LIke - I don't even need to talk to a token engineer to know I can find them at the Token Engineering Commons 🥰 https://nav.al/schelling-point

I love all the ideas in here but I feel strongly that our mission statement must be short so that it will actually be read and, ideally, repeated! A mission statement does not need to explain but to inspire.

Here are some examples of good & great mission statements :

Spread ideas. (TED)

Belong anywhere. (Airbnb)

To spread the power of optimism. (Life is Good)

To inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time. (Starbucks)

Our mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. (Microsoft)

To help bring creative projects to life. (Kickstarter)

To accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. (Tesla)

Our mission is to unlock the potential of human creativity — by giving a million creative artists the opportunity to live off their art and billions of fans the opportunity to enjoy and be inspired by it. (Spotify)

We strive to offer our customers the lowest possible prices, the best available selection, and the utmost convenience. (Amazon)

The mission of BlockScience is to guide the creation of positive-sum ecosystems for clients, partners, and collaborators by bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application. (Blockscience)

Our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. An open financial system will provide better access to financial services for everyone, and enable economic freedom for every person and business. (Coinbase)

Driving understanding and participation in the financial systems of the future. (Gauntlet)

1Hive seeks to realize a future that is more free, fair, open, and humane. To do so we need to create an economic engine that can effectively and sustainably fund public goods. (1Hive)

Mission I appreciate the mission but still feel it needs different phrasing. It should, for example, place the significance of the cultural build over the financial, which may be evident to the author but is not evident to the reader: "our foundational economic layer" sounds like it is about profit even if it isn't. And the reference to the "social layer" comes afterwards and is also a bit off-the-cuff seeming ("and the many other matters"). This social layer statement ought to precede the previous financial one OR the secondary clause of the financial sentence ought to be recast to be less vague and incorporate the social layer ("while also aligning our collective success with the individual benefit of our token holders."). I know that the intent is to address the financial relevance of the collective over the individual, but I don't know that the present structure is doing that job.

Vision Is it really a Cambrian explosion? The Cambrian explosion lasted many millions of years... Or is that a metaphor used in this field with which I'm unfamiliar? "Best practices": but what does that mean? "Best" for what? Financial gain? Humanity? Maybe it could be clarified?

Values The values is pretty good, but the last sentence is a bit sluggish and could use a bit of cleaning up. :)

Nice!

really like this, perhaps for consideration in the Mission of #14 : discovery, development, and proliferation of best practices for engineering

eduardovegap commented 3 years ago

I feel the vision is a bit too complex as a first glance to the Project. I had to google the Cambrian part.

Also I feel there should be a connection, meaning: The vision concepts, should be explained in the mission based on the Core Values. And I see that the vision and mission are not that connected in words (yes in theme).

I love the economic and social layer on Mission, my favourite part of it <3

First of all Liking the mission and vision a lot! But I have to agree with Tamara on this one. Let's make it short and powerful.

For example:

To be the Schelling point of token engineering. To accelerate prosocial tokenomics (or token engineering)

diterra-code commented 3 years ago

Vision: Working towards a safe tokenized world. Mission:

laurenluz commented 3 years ago

I really like the content in this one, but agree with others that it is a bit too long/complex.

I would also suggest taking out "Cambrian explosion" because it is confusing to many people.

I really love that it clearly emphasizes token engineering and bringing together token engineers in the MVV, which I think some of the other submissions underemphasize.
