Voice announcements - set interval based on moving time, not total time #376

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Set announcement interval to 5 minutes
2. Run / cycle for 1 minute, stop for 2 minutes, run / cycle for 2 more minutes.
3. Listen to announcement

What is the expected output?
I expected to not get an announcement for another 2 more minutes, as I have
only been moving for 3 minutes.

What do you see instead?
The announcement includes the stats (e.g. distance covered) for the last 5
elapsed minutes. I believe it would be more useful to announce the stats at
intervals based on Moving Time, instead of Total Time. That will allow for more
sensible comparison of effort from one period to the next.

What version of MyTracks are you using? V1.1.2
On what version of Android? 2.2
On what phone? HTC Desire

I for one really like the current behavior. I won't rule out your request but
I am not going to kill the old current behavior.

How about expanding the Announcement Frequency picklist to include "5 min
Total", "5 min Moving", "10 min Total", "10 min Moving" etc etc? Best of both
worlds...

Yes that what I was proposing. Although I thought of it as a checkbox:
Use Total Time for Announcements: y/n
[Maybe a little bit terser.]
I like to have the default of a pref to be true and I would like to keep wall
time as the default. In theory this should apply to splits as well.

Yes, good point about splits! Using moving time for splits is definitely my
preference. Thanks for bringing that into scope as well.

Is there a chance that Announcement Frequencies could be set to distances
instead of just times? I.e. I would really prefer to have an announcement
every .5 miles.

Thanks.
