unnecessary "GPS not found" message #492

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. turn off GPS
2. start MyTracks
3. load map screen

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
"No GPS location provider was found..."

using this app w/ GPS disabled is a common usage pattern, for viewing, sharing
tracks after recording, etc. This message is unnecessary and displayed for an
unnecessarily long time, obscuring functions of MyTracks and the Android GUI
until the message dismisses itself.

You'd be surprised how many bug reports we got in the past from people who
failed to record because they had GPS disabled :)

But I agree about making it show for a shorter time.

thanks.

if this message must be displayed, it would be nice if this message was only
shown once after opening MyTracks / once per session. it currently displays
every time the user navigates to MyTracks' map screen. quite obstructive to
using MyTracks other functions and screens.

Agreed on that too - it should at least have a timeout (so it displays at most
once every hour, for instance).
