On-screen button for adding waypoint

On my HTC Hero I could use the trackball to quickly add a statistics waypoint.  
However, my new phone, and many other new phones, don't have trackballs.

The current process to add a waypoint is 5 clicks:
Menu>Markers>Insert Statistics/Waypoint>Save>Back

This is very hard to do when riding a bike, or driving, which is how I use the 
app the most.  Plus, by the time you have dropped the marker, you're past the 
point at which you wanted it to be dropped.

WIth an on-screen option, in the lower left corner, across from the edit 
button, it would be back to 1 click waypoint.  As a bonus, it would be nice if 
in the menu you could select if you want the on-screen button to mark a 
Statistics point or standard waypoint.

Unfortunately I'm not a developer, but I would be willing to help a developer 
with button art, and the script for interaction.
