Declaring a Mission Statement #42

Closed NaftoliOst closed 4 years ago

As a growth-driven person, (all fired-up after reading "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People") I can create my personal mission statement and be reminded of it on a regular basis, so I can structure my goals in line with who I am and what I want to be.

YaakovStaum commented 4 years ago

i love it. i also think writing a mission statement is a very scary thing to attempt (speak to the countless people who decided they wanted stephen coveys' type of life, and were scared off of trying to write a mission statemen.) and a very big commitment. i have wrote one up (years ago) and i remember feeling extremely daunted. this might fall into the "scare users away" catagory!

Good point. Note though that this app is targeting self-improvement oriented people, who have mentors. The target audience may well like to write a mission statement and may be encouraged by their mentor to do so. Having said that, like you said, we wouldn't want this to cause a 'block' so I would propose that it's optional and that it's set out in a way that it isn't the first thing the user would notice. (a bit like the option to add a description to a slack channel) Perhaps we could go as far as having the app gently point it out after the user has finished setting up their goals. Or it could just be tucked away inconspicuously for the user to discover once they are comfortable enough with the app to start wondering around. (not too hidden though or there's no point having it)

And now for the main point @staumy, what's your mission statement?

Isaac-stein1 commented 4 years ago

Great idea. I definitely tthink hiding it and there being a "just-in-time" moment to discover and be able to appreciate it.

YaakovStaum commented 4 years ago

@NaftoliOst you mean what i wrote then? or what i/m trying to get here now? then-go write your own. now-writing a mission statement is an encredibly daunting task, which may turn users away. @Isaac-stein1 i dont understand.

Isaac-stein1 commented 4 years ago

@staumy sorry, that was a response to @NaftoliOst 's idea to tuck the mission statement and lightly encourage

YaakovStaum commented 4 years ago

ok. to clarify, having a mission statement is amaizing, and i.d even saw it is encouraging (don.t hide it!) but actually writing it is very scary.

maybe give the option of writing a mission statement. you can ask the mentor to discuss and help the mentee to write one up!

Isaac-stein1 commented 4 years ago

@staumy sounds good, NB can you try spelling correctly so it's easier to read : )

I second the idea that a JIT discovery of this option would be great. It's a fantastic concept in personal growth. But perhaps not MVP, unless we find our current MVP lacking.

YaakovStaum commented 4 years ago

we agreed not good for our webpage. will cause confusion if added after goals are made, and is asking overloading user if asking right at start!
