Evolution of new words -- response to first reading #13

I'm very interested in the field measuring 'social relationships by analyzing the process of communication' where linguistic mimicry and synchrony are measured to uncover social dynamics. One of my potential projects for the quarter is measuring the evolution of rap using lyrics posted on Genius.com & possibly hashtags on Soundcloud. My question is rather all encompassing: what are the best methods to uncover social networks through links in novel-word usage and measuring implied context of key phrases (ngrams)?

I was particularly excited when reading about the GloVe and word2vec models.
