This pull request closes issue #12.

The function single_trace actually run only through one direction and thus is best called single_direction.

This pull request now

removes the deprecated parallelization over multiple directions in single_trace
renames single_trace to single_direction
adjusts all dependencies
remove convert_to_matrix because it is no longer supported
