Problems installing ConPaaS-1.3.1 over OpenNebula-4.6

We need some technical additional technical assistance regarding an ongoing ConPaaS-1.3.1 deployment with OpenNebula 4.6. My already deployed OpenNebula infrastructure consists of the following components:

• OpenNebula 4.6
• CEPH (Storage)
• CFEngine (Automation)
• Nagios (Monitoring)

We have errors when loading or creating the applications in the ConPaaS when trying to set 4.6 as the opennebula version:

Error upon service creation: <type 'exceptions. NotImplementedError'> No OpenNebulaNodeDriver found for API version 4.6

And when I set to 3.8, it accepts the parameter as valid but I get this funny error:

I am using the latest ConPaas stable version, it seems that it has drivers only for opennebula versions prior to 3.8. This is where we would require your assistance to get this ConPaaS to a stable and in a useable state.

PS for @gtato : @rannybal gave me access information to try his installation, but it doesn't feel right to post them publicly. I can give them to you separately if you think that's useful.

Thank you for the prompt action on our ConPaaS problem yesterday. However, I want to run it past you if it is possible to ask one of your guys to guide my developer system admin finish the ConPaaS and Contrail Installation. Since the installation hit a brick-wall, he does not know how best to safely proceed.

Once we have the applications installed we can actively be participating in the community since (ConPaaS and Contrail VEP) will form the technology bedrock of our future.

Please any input from your team will be a real life-saver

Do you have the same problem when creating VMs independently from ConPaaS or it occurs only when ConPaaS is involved? Is there any way I can have access on the server where OpenNebula is insalled?

Hello Gtato,

Now we can independently create VMs. The problem is we cannot deploy the built-in full functionality of ConPaaS as demonstrated by your demo site. But as you can see from the frontend login acces i provided for the ConPaaS some of the features are there but not all of it. Which my system admin put down to maybe driver issues between OpenNebula and ConPaaS. But we are not fully sure what it might be.

Because you are login into the system for the first time I have provided a small pdf attached document to guide you.

To be honest this is the first time I have encountered this issue. The only thing I could suggest is clear your browsing content, shut down the chrome and start afresh. Then the browser will be forced to download fresh data from the internet instead of relying on the local cache.

If not, please try another browser like firefox or Internet Explorer. They all work with the site.

If that does not work then I will escalate the issue.

The issue with your connection issues we think has to do with packet fragmentation/MTU which might be related to you trying to access the https url address from your firewalled network.

Could you please try to access the same https URL address using any other device that uses wireless 3G or on a different network such as mobile phone or ipads to test if you can access the site. Alternatively if you have access to another computer in another network we believe that will work too. We have tested access to the same https site from other remote locations and they all seem to be ok and able to access the login page

I was wondering if it would be an option to simply whitelist his IP address in your firewall? This should normally solve the issue without requiring him to try various other network configurations. Yes, it is a good idea and I have checked the firewall to ensure that there is no blocking in place to necessitate creating the white list. We have asked individuals in America /Germany as a favour to access the same page while we check the packet logs in the firewall and thy had no problem accessing the https page. There were no packet fragmentation in the packets that came through as we experienced with the traffic from your corporate network. That was why I gave the advice to try accessing from a computer/device from another network.

Please note I am still here to do whatever it takes to enable you access the server to do what you have to do.

The port is not my problem. My problems are two: *The first one is that most of the time the server appears to be down. No matter if i specify or not 443. However there were a couple of times in which I was able to log in successfully.

*When I logged in, I encountered the second problem, which is running the jviewer.jnlp. Because when running that, it tries to download the jar file as I specified above.

The two problems can be the same one, as since most of the time i can not reach your log in page, probably I also can not download the jar file.

Sorry for remarking it again, but this does not have to do with any ports. I used the same url all the time and cleared the cache and restarted chrome everytime I tried it. I manage to log in only twice. While the other times it just fails to load the page.

Hello, It looks like we still have issues accessing your system. On the other hand, you seem to have ssh enabled on this machine. Would it be possible for you to create a user with minimum privileges but which we can access by ssh? Guillaume

First thing first please extend my apologies to your conpaas support team guy. I am dissapointed that we had some issues gaining access on time to the server which I put down to trying it for the first time from his end. Yes the HTTPS secure access on the server is not the most user friendly at times. On the other hand, I assisted him gain access to the server, but the HTTPS secure access mode of the server did not make it straight forward which must have been frustrating for him. However, I was on standby all the way through to ensure that access was secured ultimately. It is in my interest that I assisted him in whatever way possible.

Having said that, it is straight forward once you get the hang of it after the first time. I think I must have lost him once we ultimately were able to login and had to use the Java Remote Control GUI.

And as to the minimal secure access yes I think it is possible and I will see to it.

Can you please ask if he finally was able to use the Java Remote Control GUI?

Even when I managed to reach it, the connection was lasting few seconds and I could not download the java console. However, I managed to finally access the console at this moment. I didn't do anything different from what I did during the whole day, but maybe the server is less loaded.

Now I can connect to the frontend server. Is the conpaas-director and opennebula installed in the same frontend server?

Also note

That even if the https session times out, you can still carry on using the java remote control GUI Just open a new session tab in chrome browser if you need to log back into the server web interface

Hi @rannybal , I think it is time for good news :) Your ConPaaS installation is working! However your VMs do not have public IPs so they can not be reached externally. Eventually, your system admin would has to create a network which assigns public IPs to the VMs or use other OpenNebula tricks to do that. The reasons why it was not working were a couple:

• A ConPaaS image was missing, instead the image where the director is installed was being used for the managers and agents.
• Some device prefixes (*_TARGET settings) were not set correctly.

You would probably want to save the /etc/cpsdirector/director.cfg file somewhere so that you can reuse it in case you delete the director VM.
