Followup: It doesn't look minimal, we aren't using pgfplots anywhere are we?

  1. Are the verbosely listed packages for the TexLive image something like a minimum working config? aka what is the advantage over getting a standard TL image and fetching once instead of many packages.

I am going to be honest, I have no clue. You could ask M but I think he's sleeping

Confirmed with him that it's a minimal configuration and there's no practical alternative.
