Ether being accessible through Apple Wallet was a real game changer for me. It allows me to use this app called SelfControl, which forces me to curb my cigarette habit. I now smoke way less than I used to. When I signed up for the app, it generated an amount of coins proportional to the amount of cigarettes I was allowing myself for that month. Each coin starts off being worth an equal amount of ether. However, as the coins start to run out, each coin becomes increasingly more expensive. I allow myself five packs of cigarettes a month. The first two are normal price, but once I get to the third, the price of each coin I spend on the pack increases. Getting my fourth pack of cigarettes is even more expensive. Getting my fifth pack is in the price range where I can afford it, but that means eating ramen for a week. This really reminds me that I am reaching my personal limit. It gives a visceral and tangible reality to my self imposed goal.
You could, of course, get around this by paying for cigarettes in cash, but it’s so hard to find an ATM these days. Sometimes I’d rather just not smoke than have to look for an ATM. You could also get a friend to buy this product and send them normal ether. But ...
