We could use a more full-featured editor for self-intros in profiles #105

BuddyPress has a feature called Extended Profile (xProfile) Fields that allows you to create a variety of types of fields that can be added to the user-profile field set. There is also a well-regarded plugin called BuddyPress Xprofile Custom Field Types that adds additional types (like image, file, datepicker, etc.). Unfortunately none of the regular or custom sets of fields is quite what I'd like for adding self-intros.

The option I've used so far is part of the regular set and called "Multi-line Text Area" and looks a lot like the usual forum post or WP post editor.

Here's the top edit bar:

Compare this to the top edit bar for forum posts:

The two major things missing from the first are the ability to set headings and to add images. Both of these things can be done by the more sophisticated via the text pane and html but that's a lot to expect of our users.

The image issue is less than ideal even for forum posts since you need the URL of an already-uploaded image to insert it. It would be great to do drag and drop.

I don't see this as an absolute show-stopper but I want to capture it as an issue.
