deactivate-gxx_linux-64.sh: Syntax error when launching spyder or jupyter notebook from anaconda navigator #11709

Actual Behavior

I wanted to start spyder 4.1.1 from anaconda navigator in base environment, but it is not launching. I found that others have the same issue here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/60567950/jupyter-notebook-launch-error-from-navigator

The message in ubuntu terminal after spyder fails to launch is: 

/home/user8/.anaconda/navigator/scripts/spyder.sh: 5: /home/user8/anaconda3/etc/conda/deactivate.d/deactivate-gxx_linux-64.sh: Syntax error: "(" unexpected

If i launch spyder from the anaconda prompt directly by typing 'spyder' there is no issue and it launches as expected.

Expected Behavior

Spyder should have launched.

Steps to Reproduce

Launch anaconda navigator in ubuntu shell with "anaconda-navigator". Then left-click on Spyder 4.1.1 Launch button in the anaconda navigator.

Anaconda or Miniconda version:

Anaconda navigator version is 1.9.12

Hello, I have excatly the same issue when launching Jupyter or any other application available in anaconda. Did you get some replies ?

this worked for me : removed the word "function" in line 5 and line 31 in all files .sh /home/.../opt/anaconda3/etc/conda/activate.d/ /home/.../opt/anaconda3/etc/conda/deactivate.d/

Hi and thanks for your prompt answer that is truly appreciated. Actually I solved by unsinstalling and re-installing Anaconda. Not very elegant, I agree, but it worked, at least, as I couldn't lose my time. Thanks anyway for submiting a proposal. Have an excellent day.
