Anaconda Navigator not initializing. #1659

Closed agrawalmanisha closed 7 years ago

agrawalmanisha commented 7 years ago

I have just installed Anaconda 4.3.1 from https://www.continuum.io/downloads#windows - Python 3.6 Version 64 bit installer. when i was starting the installation, it has given a message python installer has 6 spaces. consider removing it. and there was an option of OK, which i had clicked.

After completing the installation process I am trying to launch Anaconda Navigator but its throwing the following error: "Python has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Please advice.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the package few times. But the problem persists.

mingwandroid commented 7 years ago

Please install to a location without spaces and try again.

agrawalmanisha commented 7 years ago

how do I do that? I am new to Python and don't understand spaces.

mingwandroid commented 7 years ago

Spaces are nothing to do with Python. Spaces are the thing between words in written (natural) languages, sometimes it's called whitespace but I don't like that term: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitespace_character

In the dialog that says "Choose Install Location", in the box that says "Destination Folder" please enter something that doesn't contain any space characters. An example of a "Destination Folder" that contains 2 space characters would be: "C:\Users\Ray Donnelly\Programming Stuff\Anaconda3" and an example of a "Destination Folder" that doesn't would be: "C:\Anaconda3".

i have reinstalled Anaconda3 at a different location on my system. Still I am not being able to initialize Anaconda Navigator. Its throwing the following error: "Python has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

mingwandroid commented 7 years ago

Can you try to launch the Anaconda Prompt instead, then from there type: anaconda-navigator .. and report what happens?

agrawalmanisha commented 7 years ago

ok

agrawalmanisha commented 7 years ago

i have found the problem. I have downloaded Anaconda3 at the following location: C:\Python. But when I am running Anaconda Navigator, its stored at the following location by default: C:\Users\M A N I S H A\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Anaconda3 (64-bit) Thus these spaces are creating the problem. Please advice how to deal with the same. I am not being able to change the name M A N I S H A or remove the spaces from here. So please advice.

mingwandroid commented 7 years ago

Spaces in the 'Start Menu' location are not the problem here. Please do this:

Can you try to launch the Anaconda Prompt (from the 'Start Menu') instead, then from there type: anaconda-navigator .. and report what happens?

agrawalmanisha commented 7 years ago

It started Initializing then the same error message: "Python has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

mingwandroid commented 7 years ago

Was any text displayed on the Anaconda Prompt window? In that window, please show the results of each of the following: echo %PATH% conda info conda list --show-channel-urls where Q5tCore.dll qmake.exe -config more %CONDA_PREFIX%\Library\bin\qt.conf

QMake has two modes, one mode for generating project files based on some heuristics, and the other for generating makefiles. Normally you shouldn't need to specify a mode, as makefile generation is the default mode for qmake, but you may use this to test qmake on an existing project

Mode: -project Put qmake into project file generation mode In this mode qmake interprets files as files to be built, defaults to ; ; ; .ts; .xlf; .qrc Note: The created .pro file probably will need to be edited. For example add the QT variable to specify what modules are required. -makefile Put qmake into makefile generation mode (default) In this mode qmake interprets files as project files to be processed, if skipped qmake will try to find a project file in your current working directory

Everything looks fairly ok there. We need to use procmon.exe and see what DLLs are getting incorrectly loaded when you try to launch anaconda-navigator.

Before we do that, can you try to launch python from the Anaconda Prompt and see if that works? Can you check to see if you have any zlib1.dll, python?.dll, python??.dll or Qt5*.dll files in your C:\Windows\System32 folder?

agrawalmanisha commented 7 years ago

there is no zlib1.dll, python?.dll, python??.dll or Qt5*.dll files in C:\Windows\System32 folder.

mingwandroid commented 7 years ago

OK, from the Anaconda Prompt can you update everything to the latest and try again:

conda update --all -y

mingwandroid commented 7 years ago

Did you try running python from the Anaconda Prompt too?

agrawalmanisha commented 7 years ago

yes. its not working

mingwandroid commented 7 years ago

Is any output given?

agrawalmanisha commented 7 years ago

the same error message that "Python has stopped working"

mingwandroid commented 7 years ago

In the cmd.exe windows I mean, not a dialog box. What version of Window are you using too?

agrawalmanisha commented 7 years ago

I am using Windows 10 Pro

agrawalmanisha commented 7 years ago

and there is no output in the cmd.exe windows.

agrawalmanisha commented 7 years ago

is it possible for you to help me on team viewer? because this is taking way too much time for both of us.

Hi. Having the same issue: C:\Users\User>conda 'conda' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. conda folder is added to the environment.

Possible solution for Windows 10; Run the installer as administrator (Right-click on installer to select run as administrator). Path Changes from C:\Users\user name with sapces\Anaconda3 to C:\ProgramData\Anaconda3. Resolved the issue for me.
