Anaconda Navigator, I first get two black screens and then a screen listing 8 applications
So, anaconda-navigator is working.
click on Anaconda Prompt and at the prompt type "activate," nothing happens
'activate' is used to activate an environment.
You are also able to type all the conda commands. So, I am sorry, what is actually not working for you?
Thanks for this reply.
I expected that the installation would put a shortcut on my desktop that would start Acaconda Navigator and would properly set whatever paths are required, but there is no such shortcut.
I also expected that if I opened Anaconda Prompt and typed "anaconda-navigator," Anaconda Navigator would start. But nothing seems to happen. In fact, so far as I can see, Anaconda Prompt crashes.
What am I missing?

But you said that you saw a screen listing 8 applications? Was that not in anaconda-navigator?
Do you see a traceback when you type anaconda-navigator ? Please share it.
Sorry I wasn't clear. As to your first question, I cannot reproduce that today, but I believe that in the programs menu under Start, I was clicking on Anaconda Navigator
I don't see a traceback when I type anaconda-navigator inside Anacaconda Prompt. Nothing happens. The app crashes. So I'm afraid I have nothing to share!
@goanpeca Any ideas?
I tried again today from the Anaconda Prompt. I got into Anaconda Navigator. Then went back to the prompt and did two or three things, producing quite a bit of traceback, a set of screenshots of Anaconda issues.docx which is attached. I hope that from this, you can see what some of my problems have been and what I need to do about them.
Please paste the traceback as text. People should not open random .docx files for security reasons.
How about a PDF of the .docx file? And for future reference, how would I save the output of an Anaconda Prompt session? Anaconda issues.pdf
It's just a cmd.exe
prompt, at core, no different so: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/copy-to-the-clipboard-from-the-windows-command-prompt/
Actual Behavior
The installation runs and seems to complete without error messages. I followed the instructions on Acaconda.Documentation for installing on Windows. The MD5 hash for the installation package is correct. No Anaconda shortcut is created on the desktop. If I go into the Programs menu and click on Anaconda3 and then Click on Anaconda Navigator, I first get two black screens and then a screen listing 8 applications. If instead I click on Anaconda Prompt and at the prompt type "activate," nothing happens. By the way, there are no directory names with spaces or unicode characters. I installed with virus-checkers turned off. So I have not been able to launch Anaconda.
Expected Behavior
There should have been a shortcut.
Steps to Reproduce
I uninstalled Anaconda, which I could only do by manually running uninstall-andaconda3.exe, since Anaconda is not listed in Programs and Features within Control Panel. I redownloaded the installation package and repeated the installation with the same results.
Anaconda or Miniconda version:
Anaconda 3-5.1.0
Operating System: Win7, 64 bit
conda info
conda list --show-channel-urls
