@IPetrik are you behind a proxy or firewall?
@goanpeca Yes, I am behind a firewall.
any updates? I am behind a firewall and facing the same issue. I followed these instructions for telling Anaconda to use my orgainzation's self-signed certificates but it did not resolve the issue.
Please take a look at https://docs.anaconda.com/anaconda/navigator/overview/#online-and-offline-modes
the following URLs need to be available on the network
All except the Google Public DNS are accessible from my organization's network. I saw in the documentation you linked to that
If Navigator detects that internet access is not available, it automatically enables offline mode
I disabled my network adapter and Anaconda Navigator was able to start.
This does not seem like intended behavior though. Wouldn't it make more sense for Navigator to timeout and start in offline mode, rather than hang indefinitely?
Also note that I am able to update Anaconda and install packages after adding my organization's certificate to my cert bundle, so I don't really understand why Navigator is still having issues.

It should not hang.
Version 1.9.2 should correct this
Thank you for the updates and the upcoming fix.
Anyone have any suggestions? When I launch Anaconda Navigator from the Anaconda prompt, it gets stuck on "loading applications phase", and the following appears in the prompt.
` (base) C:\Users\jared> anaconda-navigator 2018-11-01 22:10:14,532 - ERROR download_api._get_url:417 Expecting value: line 1 column 1 (char 0)

@jaredcouncil thanks for reporting, looking into the issuo now
@goanpeca Thank you. I'm not having that issue anymore, but I'm not sure what solved it ...
I'm having the same issue. Running anaconda-navigator with verbose/debug, it hangs up in:
2018-11-27 16:39:45,543 - DEBUG conda_api.linked:640
C:/ProgramData/Anaconda2
2018-11-27 16:39:45,664 - DEBUG download_api.get_url:438
https://vscode-update.azurewebsites.net/api/update/win32-x64/stable/version
I'm behind a firewall but I guess it should go to offline mode automatically?
I found an solution for freezing at "Loading applications". Try change the file at anaconda3\Lib\site-packages\anaconda_navigator\api\conda_api.py at line 1364 from data = yaml.load(f) to data = yaml.safeload(f)
The solution by @limkin092 worked for me as well. However, I suppose that the issue may have been caused by other problems. After the proposed change, starting the navigator gives me the following errors on the console:
2019-04-16 16:11:19,833 - ERROR download_api._get_url:416
'_DownloadAPI' object has no attribute 'proxy_servers'
2019-04-16 16:11:22,123 - ERROR download_api._download:229

2019-04-16 16:11:22,771 - ERROR download_api._download:234

Is this related to the problem? If so, do these information help to fix it? Otherwise, it would be great if the solution by @limkin092 could be included in the next release.
I'm getting the same error as @samufi. I also did the workaround and I was able to finally get to navigator but I suspect there are other issues afoot.
This is still an issue in version 2019.07, fresh install behind a corporate proxy+firewall. Changing the yaml.load to yaml.safeload works, but editing source code is ideal for my environment & deploy scenarios.
Well. I am a mac user. Anaconda and other Coda commands hangs too until ... I found my security network monitor (Little Snitch, Hands Off!, etc) block conda and anaconda. Solution: I stop those monitor and Anaconda-Navigator and Coda works fine! Then I stop Anaconda, run those monitor again, run again Anaconda-Navigator and set up the permissions on my security network monitor (for python 2.7 or 3.7). From then all is ok. No more hangs.

This is line 1391 in version 2020.02 and the line reads data = yaml.full_load(f). Changing it to data = yaml.safeload(f) has worked for me. Mentioning this for new version users.
It occur when there is an old version of anaconda navigator is installed. Check if there is new version of anaconda navigator is available.
Try command :
conda deactivate
conda update anaconda-navigator
I have the same problem when I open the app after installing it. It may not work for everyone, but it worked when I disconnected from the internet and ran it as administrator.
