Potential plans to adding audio? #2

I know it's been a long time and I gotta say I am really grateful that you have created a method for playing Virtua Fighter 5 on PC natively and you have fulfilled that wish. So if possible (assuming this project is not cancelled and is viable) can we expect to see audio implemented and possibly some other minor fixes? (Not counting online play, although that would be cool). Thanks again Silent/Cookie Monster!

I never ruled out the possibility of adding audio - I just simply hit a wall when it comes to making it work without using the game as a backing engine, and never was fortunate enough to receive any help with it.

That sucks, I wish there were more people who could help. I would help if I had the skills and free time but unfortunately I have neither. I hope that you could some how figure it out using whatever means necessary, even if it's janky. Either way you have my thanks!

One more thing, I bet you're busy so I'll keep it short and sweet. What would it be like to have audio by using Yakuza as a backing engine? Does that mean we still get a stand alone launcher or would it basically just loop back into being Yakuza Arcade Machine Plugin territory?

CookiePLMonster commented 1 week ago

This would mean changing the entire philosophy of this project and "stripping down" Yakuza instead of building a replacement standalone engine, like YAMP does currently. This would effectively mean copying the approach Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown did, as those versions "run on Yakuza engine".

ChrisDG776 commented 1 week ago

So basically it means we would be looking at doing what Sega did and thusly undo the whole premise of a standalone copy, right? Anyways whatever the case might be, have you considered this method (if viable and effective?)

CookiePLMonster commented 1 week ago

I did, but I mainly also wished for YAMP to be fully standalone and not dependent on Yakuza. For that, https://github.com/CookiePLMonster/VF5FS-Unlocker seems like a better fit.

I see. I'd like to point out that when trying to use VF5FS on Yakuza (Steam Deck, Steam OS 3.xx) the unlocked did not work (it's probably because proton can't detect the .asi in game.) Finally, is it reasonable to expect further updates for this project or should it be considered "complete" and may only be fixed when great issues arise?

I consider it complete, but if something shows up in the future, I don't rule out updating it again.

Sweet also thanks for helping me out! Well I believe that answers my questions. Thanks again for your time
