Date at the top of each day

So my thoughtstream looks like this:

What if there were a special set of characters that inserted the date? %today or $today converts automatically to 7/29/2014.

Makes sense to do it this way because

• It's simpler
• Leaves placement up to the user
• Not everyone will want to thoughtstream the date.
• Not every thoughtstream is date-oriented
• Some will want it as a header.
• Some will want it next to their ideas.
• Some will want to organize topic -> date
• Some will want to organize date -> topic.

Also, this could be the beginning of a set of features that use $ or %. Perhaps % and $ distinguish hard edits from soft edits.

• %today deletes "%today" and inserts "7/29/2014". The end.
  • If you put the cursor after the 4 and hit delete, you get "7/29/201"
  • Tomorrow it will say "7/29/2014"
• $today performs no deletions/insertions. The editor visually swaps $today with today's date.
  • If you put the cursor after the 4 and hit delete, you get "$toda"
  • Tomorrow it will say "7/30/2014"

Say we have %to and %today. How to prevent confusion?

• It activates as soon as you type it, followed by any other user input that isn't another alphanumeric character, or
• or it needs a whitespace character after it
