We have had issues trying to lookup publisher pages before, particularly Elsevier. This is still the case - URLs like http://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S0165027016300097 cause timeouts and do not redirect. - it should end up at http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0165027016300097. Look into this a bit more and see if we can find any other ways around the problem.
And this one caused a hang for 20s or so http://stacks.iop.org/0967-3334/36/i=9/a=1901?key=crossref.42a99f2464bc943b817149f85c054b31 but did not actually error out - there may be nothing we can do about these cases.
