Advert search interface

Provide a javascript-driven search interface (based on the FacetView software), providing free-text search, results ordering, and facets to constrain search parameters.

Parameters of search interface:

Default Filters:

• only adverts which are not deleted
• Note that at this stage we do not limit by institution, as there is only one pilot institution.

Facets:

• Edition - useful if looking for a specific edition of a book
• Year - useful if looking for a specific printing of a book
• Publisher - may be useful for narrowing search criteria
• Subject - useful for narrowing search criteria
• Condition - may be useful for narrowing search criteria
• Distance - useful for determining whether the item is nearby
• Price range - useful for narrowing search criteria

Order By:

• Title
• Year
• Edition
• Distance
• Price
• Relevance

Be able to focus search on fields:

• Title
• ISBN
• Authors
• Publisher

Search results should contain a minimal amount of information and link to the full advert view:

• Image
• Title
• Authors
• Edition
• Year
• Publisher
• Price

Implementation notes:

• Facetview does not currently support range searching, so this will need to be implemented to support price
• Not clear how distance searching will work yet with facetview, but it will have to be custom written
• Image will need to be retrieved from some image API

The advert search interface is basically in place, which is useful for starting to see the system take shape. The following features are still missing:

• price range searching - range searching has turned out to be difficult to add, so a bit more work than anticipated will need to be done. This is already underway, but is not ready for the end of this sprint.
• distance searching - not yet attempted. Once range searching is in place, the framework for distance searching should also be in place, and it should be a short haul to that.
• Images are not yet possible to display - depends on creating an image service.

Otherwise, the core searching capability is all set up and ready to go. Design for records has been done to a basic level, but feedback welcome.

Carrying this issue over to Sprint 3.

Price range searching is now working. The following updates are still required:

• 50+ price range is wrong - is configured to 40
• distance seaching
• display of images

Some objects have condition "as new" others have "As New" - pin down where this difference is coming from and deal with it.

Advert search interface is very close to complete. The only outstanding feature is sort by distance from the user.

Sort by distance is quite complex, and so is currently postponed until after the pilot. It will be replaced, in the mean time with #55
