User is using gnome with wayland. The application should not be terminating.

confirmed issue. Gnome no longer uses a system tray. application can potentially run without it. Going to have to create alternate behaviors for application with missing tray icon....

Experimental fix branch up with commit 32ac368ba9970c98bfc464f00e86e80205eec62e
