If you change your readme to readme.md / readme.rst you can format it with Markdown or reStructuredText. Here is a good resource on Markdown syntax to get you started. Having a good looking and readable readme (hehe) is an easy way to make your repo more useful and get better contributions from others.

Thanks, I completely forgot about markdown when I was writing the README in vi.
