as somebody with an old dell laptop, e4300. and who is fortunate enough to have the original charger, but also has a higher wattage charger that will not work with the laptop due to the stupid dell serial authentication via the dallas chip (or whatnot) i'm curious about this project, and wonder is any other info about this? or am i suppose to sift around the repo and figure things out on my own?

looks like a cool project nonetheless

thanks for sharing the link. 🙏 that's a cool 😎 write up you did there. i saw / came across a similar write up linked on hackaday where the person removed the dallas chip from his original charger and soldered directly to the power socket (daughter board) inside the laptop, thus i believe always sending the write "serial" (using that term loosely) back to the bios so essentially any and every charger in theory would work with the laptop.

one more question (if you don't mind), have you come across anyone or any writeups about people modifying the bios to allow any and all (serial / response code)?

to me that'd seem like the ideal solution, no opening up the laptop soldering chips to daughter boards, or making adapters, but rather "updating" the bios so i can accept whatever serial is sent back from the dallas chip kindof like a *.* 🤔

I agree it would be a better solution but :
