On 25 Aug a post on issue #26 says it was added to 1.19, and would be backported soon. It was added to 1.19 in https://github.com/CreeperHost/FTB-Backups-2/commit/40d60b4443ec30100f4f83ab91647583d9eed322
It still isn't working with 1.18 - ftbbackups2-forge-1.18.2-1.0.17. I couldn't find a github branch for 1.18 to check if the change was added. Is this something that can still be done?
You should be able to use the same changes from the commit I've linked, and refer to the following for details: https://docs.minecraftforge.net/en/1.18.x/concepts/sides/#writing-one-sided-mods
