strange tree cutting logic #21

Running on 1.20.4 neoforge, we've noticed that sometimes it seems to be leaving a single block of wood above saplings and not actually cutting it down. Not sure why this is happening but obviously new tree cant grow there with it leaving that block. Here is a screenshot for clarity

Can you double-check the blocks that are not being removed and make sure they are not like the infested blocks from the ants mod or something?

No ants mod, they are definitely normal logs and they are actually still there. This is on a server if that matters. It's also very inconsistent, sometimes it chops the whole tree just fine (most of the time actually)
