The vast majority of the things you can do in the path currently called "Witchcraft" are closer to the kinds of things that you'd expect to happen in the lab of Dr. Frankenstein (Creating new creatures, putting brains in jars, and stuff like that), than they are to witchcraft (brewing potions and the blood compass are about as close as that gets, but atleast the potions are basically just vanilla anyway), and given witchcraft also has other connotations that may prevent some people from fully enjoying it, calling it Mad Science seems like the better option.
(personally, I'm Christian, and will, wherever possible, steer clear of many witch related things, but this path is basically related in name only, making me uncomfortable taking it for no good reason)
