Hated the idea of having the vert tabs but not being able to get rid of the redundant horizontal tab bar at the top of Firefox (among other peeves with the new FF).
This is issue #128 - short version: Firefox limitation which VTR can't work around right now.
one feature of VTR I REALLY REALLY miss is the ability to set it so I can simply rollover a tab to make it active
I might add this as an opt-in feature. It's definitely not a thing most people would expect from scrolling.
I got another request from someone who wants to have the active tab switched already on hovering.
I want to add a counterpoint: scrolling should scroll the tablist, not the active tab. Likewise, hovering shouldn't change the active tab. I have tried both behaviors (they were supported by one of VTR's antecessors many years ago) and I actively hate them. At least, please give the user the possibility to disable them.
If somebody has more tabs than fit in the vertical tab column, there is a scroll bar so I'm not sure what mbaz means by "scrolling should scroll the tablist" -- it already does (unless mbaz means being able to use a mouse scroll wheel?).
As for my desire to restore the old feature of being able to simply hover to activate a different tab: the use of this feature was a setting option and the delay time (between beginning to hover and activation of the tab) was user-adjustable.
I have also noticed that upon closing a tab, that VTR no longer automatically goes to the last activated tab (although that may also have been a setting option).
@CaseyKazan I mean scrolling with the mouse wheel. I thought that was clear from the context.
I don't mind having a "hover to activate" feature as you describe, as long as I can disable it :)
Definitely agree with this. That's the default behavior in Vivaldi (which has vertical tabs as a built-in option)
The 0.11.0 release (0.11.0a18+) will have an experimental feature like this:
Depending on further feedback and/or own tests I will modify, completely remove this feature or promote it to a stable feature (earliest possible time with the 0.12.0 release).
Since 0.11.0 is now released I would love to hear some feedback :)
I just switched over from Tab Kit 2 (which is an older extension) which had this functionality and I loved it. I'm referring specifically to scrolling through tabs if you had your cursor over the side bar. Trying this now (in the most recent version of FF, 62.0 64-bit) my CPU usage goes through the roof and FF freezes almost immediately after I select the "click or scroll wheel" option.
I would really love to see this feature. Vertical tabs are incredibly useful, and being able to quickly scroll through them is very unobtrusive.

Hi, just got the new Firefox update (why couldn't Firefox get more extensions updated by the developers??????) and the new VTR -- THANK YOU, VTR!
Hated the idea of having the vert tabs but not being able to get rid of the redundant horizontal tab bar at the top of Firefox (among other peeves with the new FF).
BUT: I discovered that by opening Customize, I could move my "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" to the far left of the horizontal tab bar and when I exited Customize, VOILA'! The horizontal tab bar was replaced with my Bookmarks Toolbar Items and greatly reducing the visual clutter at the top of the screen.
"Reclaiming my [look], reclaiming my [look]..."
Now: I didn't try it, but it may be possible to have an empty Bookmarks Toolbar Items that would then make that space "blank" but wouldn't actually reclaim that space (which is the primary issue, right?)
Just thought I'd share this little hack of sorts. Maybe it's worth sharing with people because the "new VTR" greeting page at moz-extension://49c91aac-c566-4246-98c5-ed08df7cc6a3/notes/index.html# says that you can no longer eliminate the horizontal tab bar.
Also: one feature of VTR I REALLY REALLY miss is the ability to set it so I can simply rollover a tab to make it active and not have to mouse-click on it. I can live without being able to customize all the colors...
Thanks again for updating VTR to work with the new FF.
