A function just like makeCaseVariable but each case represents a subvariable would be extremely useful.

We could do this without a backend, constructing a deriveArray expression, though ideally this should be something supported more directly everywhere.

fixed in version 1.26.3, needs documentation update for arbitrary logical expressions into a single MR.
