Minecraft `online-mode` keeps getting set to True #860

Bug Report

System Information

I confirm:

Symptoms

Reproduction

IIRC there used to be a setting for this a long time ago in Configuration -> Server Settings but that seems to be gone

Yes this is known functionality. Due to ToS, AMP does not allow you to turn off Online-Mode explicitly.

If you are using Bungeecord, there is a setting there to allow proxies, however you can't simply just turn it off to allow cracked clients.

okay but what do they gain from removing the "Online-Mode"?? they're only screwing people like me who paid for a license, for example Aternos.org had and still has "Allow Cracked Clients" as an option, so basically AMP / CubeCoders scammed me because when i bought one of their Licenses i was happy because it had all what i needed and now they removed one of the most important settings options in the settings menu, i feel Scammed and betrayed and as for their ToS-es they can shove'em up where the sun don't shine. i agreed with their old ToS when i bought my License not with the new ToS-es meaning i require the features that were sold to me be still available even after updates

There will be no further discussion around this. Using software illegally is not supported in AMP. End of story.

okay but i bought my license before they decided to be stupid soo end of what story?? also Mojang and Microsoft have over 1000 issues on their head do you or anyone think that they care about some 10yr or 15yr old using a pirated version of minecraft, no they don't, they even made that option so once a "Pirate" saves up on money they can buy the game legally, i used to play on a pirated Minecraft and down the line i bought with real money Minecraft. so i'm sorry if i offended you or anyone but it's a stupid and one of the dumbest moves i've seen from anyone so far knowing that there are other alternatives to AMP for Minecraft specifically ( in example just running the Server all by yourself through the Jar File, through Docker, through MineOS, through pterodactyl.io. sooo yeah)3

No further discussion means no further discussion.

@IceOfWraith Issue resolved; we found a workaround a while back i.e., not use AMP.

Using software illegally is not supported in AMP

Do consider:

  1. There is no piracy involved in my situation. I can show purchase receipts.

  2. I'm sure online-mode was designed for a number of use cases, including mine. If piracy was such a concern, Mojang/Microsoft likely would have removed it already.

  3. Restricting control over a legitimate built-in feature due to its potential for misuse seems to be a decision made without consideration of unintended consequences.

  4. I have skimmed reviewed the ToS that's readily accessible (https://cubecoders.com/TermsOfSale and https://manage.cubecoders.com/AMPEnterpriseTerms) and I see no terms against piracy and cracked software. Please note that this does not mean I support piracy.

My use case: I'm setting up a server behind a campus firewall. The campus policies are fine but due to bureaucracy, it's not quick or straightforward to request a network exception, or if this would even be granted at all.

AMP supports scenarios that are supported by Microsoft. Things like proxy servers. It does not support piracy like the other user intended. And yes, it is indeed against the Microsoft terms to use a pirated copy.

they(who ever agreed on the idea of removing the online-mode) are most likely some random noobs that have never plaid Minecraft also just as a reminder here's something Notch(AKA Creator of Minecraft) has said in the past which still is being applied

If someone pirates Minecraft instead of buying it, it means I’ve lost some “potential” revenue. Not actual revenue, as I can never go into debt by people pirating the game too much, but I might’ve made even more if that person had bought the game instead. But what if that person likes that game, talks about it to his or her friends, and then I manage to convince three of them to buy the game? -Said Notch.

then riddle me this how come Aternos.org supports pirated copies of minecraft?, or a better question yet why does Mojang(The ones responsible of Minecraft Java Edition, Microsoft has 100% control over Minecraft Bedrock ED not Java ED) ship the Server jar with that feature build in it?

IceOfWraith commented 1 year ago

Mike, the creator of AMP (and previously MCMyAdmin) is very much aware of how online mode works. Microsoft owns Mojang and the Minecraft software now. So whatever the previous owner said doesn't apply here. Your use case is against the terms. End of story. Any further discussion of piracy will lead to a ban.

since when did Microsoft buy Mojang? i thought Notch bought Mojang and sold his 50% of the Minecraft IP to Microsoft

IceOfWraith commented 1 year ago

Microsoft acquired Mojang in 2014. Let me google it for you.

Regardless, the discussion is done on piracy. It's not a debate.
