barrel solidifcation recipe for lava into obsidian produces 'air' #15

Describe the bug When searching in JEI for recipes to produce obsidian there is a barrel tab for a solidifying recipe. Clicking on this displays a recipe with water on top, lava in the barrel, but no output block. If you try to make this recipe the lava disappears and looking at the barrel tells you it has 'block: air' inside. It produces no output. The 'air' block does not appear to be removed by a hopper so no further lava pumps into the barrel until you click it to remove the air.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Place a stone barrel
  2. place a water source block directly above the barrel
  3. fill the barrel with lava
  4. hold your cursor over the barrel to check it's contents

Expected behavior I would expect the lava to turn to obsidian (and depending on set up, for the obsidian to be auto removed from the barrel so more lava can enter".

This is a known issue (with no known fix unfortunately). Try switching the hopper underneath out for an item pipe.

I have tested with both item pipez and logistical transporters, the issue persists with both these options

In testing, what I did to fix this was to break the stone barrel and remove the hopper to completely reset the obsidian making process. Then I placed the barrel back and put a Pipez item pipe under it (or coming out of the side of it) and wrenched the pipe and it worked again.

This procedure did not work for me.

I did notice that after a restart the recipe in JEI shows correctly. If you swap out the hopper at this point (for a pipe or logistical transporter) and then remove the 'air' block in the barrel the recipe will work. It seems a restart fixes it but the first time it tries to process with a hopper it breaks again until another restart.

Do you know if the mod dev knows about, and/or is working on fixing this issue?

This is an issue that has come up with previous versions of Ex Nihilo in the past so it is something they've been made aware of before. As I understand it, there are no pending updates for the mod moving forwards for Forge, only NeoForge, so it's unlikely this will get fixed. I have tried the pack on the latest available version of Ex Nihilo and it does the same thing.

The fix is to, unfortunately, just not use a hopper to remove obsidian from the stone barrel and if you do, you need to follow the procedure above with a restart of the pack between.

I'll add a note to the quest book not to use a hopper for this process.
