Mouse freezing and screen flashing in Ubuntu's Gnome 42 Wayland, on Raspberry Pi #167

Bug Description When 'Disable background transparency' is selected, mouse intermittantly freezes and screen flashes. When deselected, issues apparently disappear.

Expected behavior Should perform the same under either selection

Marking as unconfirmed because of the flashes. The mouse freezes, which are confirmed, are an issue with either Gnome Shell or Gnome Mutter. Most likely Shell.

Not certain if this is pertinent, however it appears as if I can choose either Plasma with x11 or Gnome with wayland but not Plasma and wayland? Also have no idea why the two wayland choices?

Fyi: although no freezes under Plasma x11, animation performance noticeably degraded vs. Ubuntu wayland 20230319_184556

For Wayland support in Plasma, sudo apt install plasma-workspace-wayland

Hmmmm.... Had already installed but reinstalling brought that option forward...

Switched to kde plasma-wayland, mouse freezes and flashes issue apparently resolved in this configuration.

It's unfortunate but not all environments can do high performance graphics well. KDE might be one of the best for these purposes, since it is used for the SteamDeck (not to be confused with the StreamDeck). But fortunately Gnome and Canonical are focused in improving performance for games, which will also help in this regard.
