The next hardware platform is something we need to address.
The current hardware platform is adequate for the current site and it would seem reasonable to maintain the same level of performance ranked against the current HW.
Instead of kicking the can down the road, let this be an opportunity to adjust our expectations and prepare for a longer term support in HW for the site as it continues to develop and grow in use.
The goal is to determine the best grade of HW that is desired for running the Site and choose a profile of that HW system that is at least twice the CPU performance (benchmark) than the current (which I believe is around 6500 on a benchmark scale for the E3-1270 V2. The selection of the HW (the goal) is also determined by upper bound limits on the network capabilities for the system based on the network it resides. Bandwidth and Limits of Data transmission are also key metrics to review.
The measurement of those metrics is acquired by getting the raw data from the existing network tallies, and load average measurements over time to conclude what the moving average is of load, disk usage, and network transmission requirements.
The result of the Issue being resolved is having those data metrics in hand to compare and contrast available current HW profiles offered by or available through best of class network and hosting services.
