Acquire updated Software from Vendor for new Site #4

The key here is to get a copy of the latest Software from the Vendor and apply it to the new HW.

This issue is going to help us track the development work needed to reconfigure the HW/SW system and install the packages from the Vendor the Site software.

  1. The goal is to get the Software from the Vendor for the latest version (IP.Board, etc.) and apply a base version of it to the new HW system. The secondary goal is to gain information from the Vendor about the feasibility of porting the Legacy Data currently held by the Current Site Software. To know (yes/no) if there is indeed an upgrade path (not an upgrade path for the Software per se -- it's always possible to just install the latest Software cleanly).. The issue is to determine if after doing that will we also be able to use the Legacy Data (from the old Site Software) when running the New Site Software.
  2. The method to do this is a simple request and provisioning of the resources of the group to acquire the Software from the Vendor. We also need to acquire a copy of a recent data dump of the Legacy Data as a test-set of Data that can be loaded by the New Software to find if problems exist in the migration of the Software (which implies a Migration of the Legacy Data). As warranted, this Issue may (and probably should) be split into several smaller Issues to handle the facets of this problem. But it's still rooted in the goal of an upgraded version of the Site Software.
  3. The list of metrics here to measure success is long. Chief among them is the need to make sure the importing of the Legacy data on the new Software was made cleanly. Another is to ensure that the new Site Software will execute on the new HW System (the vendor provides some smoke-test scripts already to test this even before the new Software is applied). This Issue should be updated per the specific application (plugin, ad-ons) that are selected.
