As in Atlas v1, Atlas v2's map searches should incorporate results from the Mapbox Search API's map.places endpoint. Results should always be of the feature type currently being displayed, e.g. SA2s for the South Australia dataset.
For example, the results for "point pass" should include the SA2 "Goyder", as Point Pass is a town in that SA2.
