I've noticed that the game works on older versions of cxbx, but somehow not on later versions
This is because older versions of the emulator used d3d8, whereas newer versions of it implement d3d9. Somehow this conversion has caused issues with a few titles.
There could be another cause, so like any other regression, please report the exact commit using a git bisect search
This needs re-testing, vertex declaration errors should no longer occur for the most part thanks to recent vertex shader work.

Improved, I think it could be fully playable. Sound slightly glitches, and you can see slowdowns
It's not fully playable, the screen goes black (except HUD) in second area (before the bottom of the pit) or later, if you're lucky, and FPS drops after this. If you press Start twice to go to menu and back, you'll see a moment of gameplay that continues to render, but right after that black screen returns. If you try to go blindly to another area, the game will freeze in the middle of Loading screen.
UP: I've found a video from December 2019 that shows the problem (timecode - 10:20). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19Kr7C-JF4Y In last version, the issue is still present.
For some reason, in the latest build it crashes every time after the first loading screen (you choose the fighter, you skip the intro, then "Loading" and crash).
Same for Versus Mode.
