Yes, you are right, there was a bug left after the move to 286 symbol alphabet.
The problem has been solved just on latest release. If you update master branch to latest version, "fse foo -o bar" should work properly.

Commit d5ff8d4809da5cc2c32f1e5aa6d2cb5dc0592cff works for me. The latest one though wedges because nbSymbols has become -1. This is the "fse foo -o bar" syntax. I think it's related to using the 286 symbol alphabet.
