The pure and simple explanation of this: a vanilla name tag that can change its tag via simple string variables.
In a low mod-count environment, this feature may hold very few uses. The example I will draw would be something like tagging a baby mob with how much time it has left before it grows up. In a more hyper specific example (the use case I'm interested in) is: Any context where a mod decides to use vanilla nametags for some task, for example: In the mod Create there are Nixie tubes, simple displays that can show either a redstone signal, or what we are interested in: name tag contents without even needing to use the tag. I had this whole idea of using them as a means to show the time of day, power amount/capacity, FE/t, etc... but nametags are extremely limiting.
So yes, the idea I am proposing is some sort of unbreakable tag, or perhaps something that replicates the Player simulator but with "tagging" interaction. Perhaps another use case for "taggers" could be for more automation approaches with Integrated dynamics where a mod marks multiple blocks under the same item ID and a basic NBT Index? I am no expert on the best uses, I merely wanted to share an idea.
Unfortunately, outside of "taggers" I find this issue re-arise in different ways that are unrelated to the name tag. I am fully aware it is unrealistic to expect every use case covered for every mod, morphing name tags just seemed like a simple enough request.
Thank you for reading in advance, even if my idea ultimately gets glossed over and rejected!
