Also some kind of auto gain for the audio would be helpful as there won't be any controls. There is an example of this in a very very old implementation of the A sketch (will dig it out)

Eartrumpet Labs have provided a high end condenser microphone to serve as the primary interaction point for the triangle installation. We have installed ws2812b addressable LEDs on the inner circumference of the diagraphm ring and need a simple sketch that will subtly glow to entice participants to the microphone. The glow animation will burst into spinning sound-reactive light and color when the participant makes a sound.

Map color to frequency Map speed of spinning animation to amplitude. Animation must be a continuous circle (meaning LEDs loop back on themselves). Implement easing so that animation speed smoothly ramps up and down with a sense of inertia.
