The problem is identical in xfce.
xfce4's Web browser and epiphany-browser don't work either, they load but entering ddg.gg into the urlbar redirects to duckduckgo.com, but the progress bar gets stuck roughly halfway, and the page never loads. That is a different bug. I only mention it here on the off-chance that it is related.
