Is it possible? I do not see an easy solution.

We're focused on Prymatex (TextMate derived text editor) development right now, so this project won't receive much further development for now. I belive some of https://code.launchpad.net/~ayatana-scrollbar-team/ayatana-scrollbar-qt/trunk could be ported back to pyqt.
