Hi! I just installed v 1.9.0 and noticed that if you start Whatsapp via Whatsapp Tray, when you minimize whatsapp, then you can not restore the main window, because the process "whatsapp.exe" is ended, it doesn't show on task manager.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Install Whatsapp tray v1.9
  2. Open whatsapp tray
  3. minimize the whatsapp main window
  4. now the main whatsapp window can not be restored from the tray icon, because the process "whatsapp.exe" is no longer running.
  5. additionally, clicking on a conversation, causes whatsapp to close.

Expected behavior You should be able to restore whatsapp from the whatsapp tray tray icon.

And, I must add that v1.8 works just fine. reverted to 1.8 for the time being.

Can't reproduce that. Can you tell at what point whatsapp is no longer running? Maybe it is some temporary problem or can you reproduce that consistently even afte a pc-restart?

I tried several times, always with the same result: the very second I minimize whatsapp, the process disappears from task manager and it can't be restored from the tray icon. I haven't tried after a reboot because i'm busy with other stuff and rebooting takes way too long (non SSD drive)

Ok, so I had some time to reboot my PC. re-installed v1.9 after reboot, no luck, same behavior, minimizing or just clicking on a conversation, causes Whatsapp to exit. Went back to v1.8 (again!) , everything works as expected.

For reasons unrelated to Whatsapp tray, I had to upgrade my PC from win7 to win10 and now version 1.9 works as expected. So, I guess it would be safe to say that the problem with v1.9 only presents itself under Win7. I might wanna try a VM with Win7 to be 100% sure...

Nice to hear that, i setup a win7 vm and WhatsApp is crashing without WhastappTray, i dont know if this is related to the vm or there is currently a bug with WhatsApp and Win7 but im at a point where i think i just drop the support for Windows7 as my time is limited and Win7 is not even supported anymore by WhatsApp according to their Website. Thank you for your time reporting this and have a nice day :)

jvidalw commented 2 years ago

that's kinda weird, because Whatsapp worked just fine for me under Win7. So did whatsapp tray 1.8. the problems started with v1,9

D4koon commented 2 years ago

Im sure it is working on Win7, its probably something with my vm that causes it not to work for me, its just officially WhatsApp does not support Win7 anymore according to their website... And anyone with Win7 can still use v1.8 of WhatsappTray

jvidalw commented 2 years ago

Yes, it is not officially supported, yet it worked just fine...weird.
