same here. It seems store app files are differ from desktop app files as I cannot find any leveldb-directory and app folder name can change as it contains the version number , e.g. mine is 5319275A.WhatsAppDesktop_0.3.2386.0_x64__cv1g1gvanyjgm. Moreover shortcut to marketplace is stored in the start menu tiles database, I cannot find it in any folder mentioned on https://superuser.com/questions/960406/where-are-all-locations-of-start-menu-folders-in-windows-10

Is this still not possible?

Actually you can do it by creating a shortcut named "Whatsapp" in "%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\WhatsApp\" The shortcut target must be the Whatsapp.exe in the "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\XXX_WhatsappFolder"

That didn't work for me... and I can't find the indexedDB; the folder I found was empty; have no clue how whatsapp works.. I first installed it from windows store, then I updated it directly from their website

Create link in path: C:\Users\ %userprofile% \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\WhatsApp\WhatsApp.lnk with source: "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\5319275A.WhatsAppDesktop_2.2134.10.0_x64__cv1g1gvanyjgm\app\WhatsApp.exe" then launch WhatsappTray.exe and be happy)

Since there is no need for this path anymore, i guess this should be no problem anymore, but if there is, just open a new issue
