After the project is initially rendered, it is currently marked as version 0.1.0. However, it has not really been "released" yet or anything. Instead, mark the initial version as 0.1.0-dev in setup.py, and remove the corresponding entry in HISTORY.md (i.e, the history file should not contain any releases).
